2002 – South Lake – Dusy Basin & Mosquito Flat

This year we began with a grand plan to hike over Bishop Pass and drop down to the John Muir Trail. We’d then follow the John Muir Trail South as far as the junction with Sawmill Pass, which we would cross to the east side of the range and hike down to the auto we had left at the trailhead.  But, as sometimes happens, circumstances changed our plans. We base camped in the Bishop Lake basin, where we explored extensively and also crossed over Bishop Pass into Dusy Basin.  After a few days, we hiked out and set up another base camp near Mosquito Flat, which was also a good access point for other very satisfying day hikes.

Wednesday 7 August – Day hike over Bishop Pass to Dusy Basin
Thursday 8 August – Bishop Lake to South Lake
Friday 9 August Mosquito Flat/Little Lakes Trailhead to Gem Lakes/Morgan Pass
Saturday 10 August – Mosquito Flats/Little Lakes Trailhead to Ruby Lake/Mono Pass
