2006 Tuolumne Meadows to Agnew Meadows

This year three of us have decided to backpack from Tuolumne Meadows to Agnew Meadows.  This stretch includes some of the most scenic parts of the John Muir Trail including Lyell Canyon, Donahue Pass, Rush Creek Forks, Island Pass and the rightfully famous Thousand Island Lake.  We plan out the logistics of getting to the trailhead and returning from the east side of the Sierra as well as meals and equipment and potential camping spots. 

But as in all such trips, there are always the unexpected events – this time, failure of one of the packs right at the start of our hike. Luckily, duck-tape saves the day.  Nevertheless, this hike proves to be a wonderful Sierra backpack experience: waterfalls, sweeping views, spectacular lightning storms, bear encounters, mosquitos, and “Sierra bathtubs” to bathe in.  The photos below give a taste of our experiences on the trip.

Saturday 5 August – Above Rush Creek Forks to Thousand Island Lake
Sunday 6 August – Thousand Island Lake, layover day
Monday 7 August – Thousand Island Lake to Agnew Meadows via River Trail
